Abstract
The report starts by demonstrating the importance of visionary leadership by using relevant examples of successful and visionary leaders, before delving into the 7 pillars of vision 2016. Effectively, the presentation serves to contribute to the creation of awareness of the importance of Vision 2016. A case is then made that of the 7 pillars, the central pillar is the one on: An educated and informed nation. The author posits that for the pillars to be successfully realised there ought to be a strong educational foundation that has to be laid within the nation. The economics of education links up with Vision 2016 through the education pillar, hence an argument is made that there is a strong positive correlation between education and economic prosperity at both macro and micro levels. Evidence is brought to the fore that highly developed countries have historically made higher investment in education, as compared to lesser developed nations. This assertion has proven true, even at an individual level, for empirical studies show strong positive correlation between the level of education and the level of earning. To substantiate further, the return on investment concept is used to demonstrate that education, as an investment, has a higher yield. A case study of two former BAC students is then used to inductively argue for the importance of education in improving the standard of living and contributing to a prosperous nation.
